Dr. Lutz Raettig

Dr. Lutz R. Raettig is Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Morgan Stanley Bank AG, Frankfurt since February 1, 2005 and serves as a director of Morgan Stanley International Bank Ltd. London.

From 1995 to 2005 Lutz Raettig was Chief Executive Officer of Morgan Stanley Bank AG, Frankfurt. In addition he held the post of Vice Chairman Europe and Country Head for the group in Germany and Austria. Before joining Morgan Stanley, he spent eight years as Executive Vice President at Commerzbank AG in Frankfurt and New York, where his positions included Head of Investment Banking, Head of Global Corporate Banking and finally Co-Head of North America in New York. Dr. Raettig had previously worked for 18 years at Westdeutsche Landesbank (WestLB) in Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, London (Orion Banking Group) and New York, mainly in the areas of investment banking, capital markets and corporate banking. Between 1978 and 1982 he was based in New York as Co-Head North America.

Born in Berlin in 1943, Lutz Raettig obtained his high school-leaving certificate (Abitur) in Bremen and went on to study business administration and economics in Hamburg. After graduating in 1967 he received his PhD in 1969. From 1967 to 1970 he worked as an assistant professor at Hamburg University.

Dr. Lutz R. Raettig holds a number of positions in the financial centre Frankfurt. Inter alia, he is an honorary member of the Municipal Council of the City of Frankfurt am Main, Chairman of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange Council, a member of the Board of Directors of the Association of German Banks, a Member of the Supervisory Board at Clearstream International, a Member of the Supervisory Board of exhibition company Messe Frankfurt, Vice President of the Frankfurt Chamber of Industry and Commerce and the VhU Employers’ Federation of Hesse, Chairman of the Banking Committee at Frankfurt Chamber of Industry and Commerce, a Member of the Supervisory Board of the public utility company Stadtwerke Frankfurt am Main Holding GmbH and the municipal transport company VGF Frankfurt, and a Member of the Board of Directors of the American Chamber of Commerce in Germany and the German American Chamber of Commerce in New York.

Lutz Raettig’s cultural commitment to Frankfurt includes seats on the boards of trustees of the Alte Oper Concert hall, the Schirn Museum and the English Theatre.
