Embedding regtech to manage the vastly interlinked sustainable finance regulations: This online event with leading industry experts from both the Dutch and Frankfurt am Main financial sectors will provide an update on the most recent regulatory developments with a special focus on the Sustainable Disclosure Regulation and how to close compliance gaps. To do so, Elmo Olieslagers, partner at Frankfurt Main Finance member Compendor, and Alexander Behrens, Partner at Allen & Overy will share their insights and knowledge. Therefore, we conducted an interview with Elmo Olieslagers to learn more about the event:
Elmo, what are the sustainable finance expectations in Europe?
Sustainable Finance has a key role to play in mobilising the necessary capital to deliver on the policy objectives under the European Green Deal as well as the EU’s international commitments on climate and sustainability objective. It helps ensure that investments support a resilient economy and a sustainable recovery from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
As such, the EU Commission has launched an Action Plan that expects the financial sector to:
- Re-orient investments towards more sustainable technologies and businesses
- Finance growth in a sustainable manner over the long-term
- Contribute to the creation of a low-carbon, climate resilient and circular economy
This transformation will certainly spur new business opportunities (for example the need for true sustainable investment products or ESG aligned products), but the financial sector will also experience the financial risks stemming from the transformation of the economy and the worsening physical conditions. The determination of the EU legislators to fundamentally change the way in which EU economies work should encourage institutions to approach ESG risks also from a strategic perspective.
What is the aim of this event?
