EU Financial Centres Power Index – Poland is facing a unique opportunity to define itself as a key player in the financial sector in Central Europe in the future.
Polish’s strong position in the “EU Financial Centres Power Index” reflects the large scale and modernity of our economy. We are the leader in terms of the number of mobile transactions and online banking, as well as employment in foreign financial companies, and our financial industry is one of the largest in Europe. The result is 8th place among the 27 Member States of the European Union. By implementing the necessary reforms, we can not only improve our position in the index, but also increase the scale of financing for the growth of companies and their innovative activities, which will increase the chances of maintaining a high rate of economic growth despite the aging of the population.
The “EU Financial Centres Power Index” emphasizes the importance of Polish as a large and innovative economy. Poland has growth potential in the area of financing the economy, which requires the implementation of a capital market development strategy.
Poland, although it is the sixth largest economy in the European Union, ranks 13th in terms of the scale of financing the economy. This shows the need to strengthen the banking sector, the securities market, corporate bonds and insurance. To improve these areas, it is recommended to implement several key reforms: creating a stable environment for the banking sector, strengthening the protection of minority investors’ rights in state-owned enterprises, equalizing the tax burden on investors in the real estate and financial markets, addressing the future of Open Pension Funds, and developing a capital market development strategy to support financial innovation
Our analyses show that Poland is the leading financial center in Central Europe, although the potential of its economy is not fully exploited. Declining indicators, such as the ratio of bank credit to GDP and the decreasing number of companies listed on the stock exchange, indicate the need for change.
Compared to other large EU countries, Poland is an extremely open economy, which translates into growing exports of services, including financial and insurance services. The strong share of foreign capital accelerates the diffusion of innovation, paying off for one of the most modern banking sectors in the EU according to Deloitte’s “Digital Banking Maturity 2024” data. By implementing appropriate reforms, Poland has a real chance to improve its position in the “EU Financial Centres Power Index” and fully exploit the potential of its economy to finance the growth of companies and innovations.
