Good news for the European Union. Success for Frankfurt.

The Anti-Money Laundering Authority (AMLA) will be based in Frankfurt am Main. This was decided by the Council and Parliament of the European Union on Thursday (22 February 2024) in Brussels.

Gerhard Wiesheu, President of the financial centre initiative Frankfurt Main Finance, says: “A great success and a wise decision by the European Union. The establishment of the authority here in Frankfurt underlines the importance and significance of the financial centre on the Main. This success is the result of the joint efforts of the Federal Government, the State of Hesse and the City of Frankfurt. It is now important to fulfil the responsibility that goes hand in hand with the headquarters of the authority for combating money laundering and terrorist financing. All those involved should have the ambition to develop Frankfurt into a knowledge and technology centre for the identification of money laundering. The financial centre has all the prerequisites for this.”
